The Rockhurst softball team fell to McKendree by scores of 9-3 and 9-2 Sunday afternoon at Loyola Park in their final games of the 2019 season.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game one before the Hawks got on the board with a pair of runs in the fourth inning.
Emily Clark scored on a
Lauren Marks single.
Sydney Wilde would single home Marks later in the inning. McKendree would get those two runs back in the sixth inning. Clark took matters into her own hands for the Hawks' third run, belting a solo homer in the seventh inning. Clark and Marks each collected two hits in game one.
Clark's productive day at the plate translated to game two, as she singled home
Hanna Stam to give Rockhurst a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Bearcats would surge ahead, but the Hawks, rain and all, didn't lose focus. Coming out of a weather delay, two seniors, in what would be their final Rockhurst at-bats, teamed up for one last run as
Megan Freitag drove in
Taylor Rupe.
While it was the final doubleheader for seniors Freitag, Rupe, Stam,
Emily Truitt and
Shannon Greene, the freshman Wilde gave the Hawks a glimpse into the future, going three-for-three in game two, finishing the day with four hits and an RBI.
