Ronshausen leads Hawks past Eagles

The Rockhurst Hawks defeated the Avila Eagles 76-60 Monday night at Mason-Halpin Field House, anchored by 21 points from Madeline Ronshausen.

The senior guard from St. Louis shot an efficient eight-of-13 from the floor, and set the tone early with 10 points in the opening quarter. Ronshausen's jumper in the closing seconds of the first quarter gave the Hawks a 20-10 advantage.

Rockhurst stretched the lead to 14 at 35-21 when Ronshausen found Hailey Dolphin for a triple. The Eagles would pull back within eight at the half and hung around much of the third quarter.

Up 46-38, Rockhurst gained separation with a 16-1 run, including 8-0 in the last 1:11 of the third quarter. The Hawks shared the ball well during the run as Ronshausen, Dolphin, Lauren Krissman, Maddy Grennes, Meghan Urbanski and Daly Sullivan all helped put the game out of reach.

Sullivan finished with nine points on three-of-five from beyond the arc. Dolphin tallied eight points and five rebounds. Urbanski chipped in six points, four rebounds and three steals. Molly Hummel added six points on three-of-three from the floor, while Mary Leigh Rock scored six points on a perfect six-of-six from the foul line. Reagan Dodd added to her team-leading rebound total with a game-high eight boards.

Coach Larry Park's team played aggressively, racking up 43 rebounds and getting to foul line 31 times. The Hawks have now won two games in a row and five of their last six.

Rockhurst is off until Jan. 2, when GLVC opponent Quincy visits Mason-Halpin (5:30 p.m.).
