Hawks suffer shootout loss in NCAA opener

The Rockhurst women's soccer team saw their season end Thursday with a 3-0 shootout loss to Findlay in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional in Findlay, Ohio.

Findlay made all three of its penalty kicks while the Oilers turned back all three of Rockhurst's penalty kick attempts in the shootout.

The third-seeded Oilers and sixth-seeded Hawks battled to a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes. The Hawks scored in the first half and Findlay tied the score early in the second half.

Jillian Leetch gave Rockhurst a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when she scored her seventh goal of the season from five yards out off a corner kick by Hannah Lauer.

Findlay's Addie Graham knotted the score less than four minutes into the second half on a close range shot off a right cross.

Rockhurst, 14-5-1, posted 19 shots (six on goal). Findlay, 14-2-2, tallied 16 shots and six shots on goal.

Jillian Leetch led Rockhurst with seven shots and three shots on goal. Elle Guttmann and Olivia Van Belle each had three shots. RU's Rosie Breheny collected five saves.
