Hawks move past Maryville in GLVC quarterfinal

A pair of second-half goals lifted the Rockhurst Hawks to a 2-0 victory over Maryville in the GLVC Tournament quarterfinals Sunday afternoon at Bourke Field.

Elle Guttmann got the Hawks on the board with 16 minutes remaining in the second half on a well-struck ball from 20 yards out, beating the keeper inside the left post.

Rockhurst doubled the lead less than three minutes later when Guttmann found Jillian Leetch, who crossed it to her sister McKenna Leetch who found the back right of the net from six yards out.

Rosie Breheny posted a clean sheet for Rockhurst. In a great all-around defensive performance, the Hawks allowed zero shots on goal.

Offensively, the Hawks attempted 21 shots, putting 10 on goal. Guttmann and Mary Koeller led the way with five shots apiece. McKenna Leetch posted three shots.

Greg Herdlick's club improves to 14-4 on the season and the Hawks advance to the GLVC Tournament semifinals where they will meet No. 7 seed Southern Indiana at 11:00 a.m. EST Friday in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
