Hawks wrap up regular season on the road

Rockhurst concludes the regular season with two GLVC road games this weekend.
The Rockhurst Hawks travel to Indianapolis (Friday, 4:00 p.m. CST) and Bellarmine (Sunday, 11:00 a.m. CST) this weekend for their final two matches of the regular season.

With a record of 12-3 (10-3 GLVC), Coach Greg Herdlick's team currently is tied with McKendree in first place the conference standings. Both of the Hawks' opponents this weekend have three conference losses as well -- UIndy at 9-3-1, Bellarmine at 8-3-2. Needless to say, the stakes are very high this weekend. These two matches will go a long way in determining the regular season conference champion, GLVC Tournament seeding, regional rankings and potential NCAA Tournament berths.

The Hawks rediscovered their form last weekend with wins over Lewis (1-0) and Illinois Springfield (3-0). Rockhurst continues to display great balance offensively. With 28 goals on the year, no individual has more than five goals, as the Hawks spread the ball around unselfishly.

Jillian Leetch has tallied five goals and five assists. McKenna Leetch and Stephanie Ostrander have each found the back of the net four times. Elle Guttmann is tied for the team lead in assists with five. Freshman Greta Seal has provided a spark, scoring two goals and assisting on four more. Mary Koeller has collected four assists, contributing to the Hawks' great ball movement and disciplined spacing.

Defensively, the Hawks have allowed just 12 goals in 15 matches. Goalkeepers Megan Meyers and Rosie Breheny have combined for eight shutouts this season. The defensive play in front of them has been sound, anchored by seniors Cathy Rometti and Colleen Pikus.

Rockhurst will look to maintain that high level of play this weekend. A top-four finish in conference would clinch the top seed in the GLVC Tournament next weekend.
