Rockhurst scored twice in the first seven minutes, setting the tone early in a 2-0 win over Southern Indiana at Sunday afternoon Bourke Field.
Stephanie Ostrander found the back of the net from six yards out, off an unselfish extra pass form
Mary Koeller at the 39:33 mark in the first half. Less than two minutes later, USI suffered an own goal off a well-place corner kick by
Jillian Leetch, sending the ball into a crowd in front of the net.
Goalkeeper
Megan Meyers posted a clean sheet for the second time in as many matches. The sophomore from Pacific, Mo. tallied five saves in the win. The shutout is Rockhurst's third straight, dating back to last Sunday's overtime win over Missouri S&T with
Rosie Breheny in net.
Ostrander led the way in shots with six. The senior forward narrowly missed a second goal, hitting the post late in the second half after beating the USI keeper to her right. Leetch and
Olivia Van Belle each put shots on frame as well for the Hawks.
With the win, Coach
Greg Herdlick's team improves to 10-1 (8-1 GLVC) and remains in first place in the conference. The Hawks are on the road next weekend, taking on Lindenwood (Friday, Oct. 18, 5:00 p.m.) and UMSL (Sunday, Oct. 20, 12:00 p.m.).
