Rockhurst dropped its first game of the season, falling to Washburn 69-49 Friday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Madeline Ronshausen scored a game-high 17 points.
Rachel Holden chipped in six points and collected a team-high seven rebounds.
Briahtia Sebek led the Hawks in assists with three.
Lauren Krissman added seven points and four rebounds. Freshman forward
Reagan Dodd provided energy in the second half, pulling down five rebounds in 10 minutes.
Rockhurst jumped out to an early lead, sparked by a hot start from Ronshausen. The junior guard from St. Louis poured in eight of the Hawks' first 10 points, including two three-pointers as the home team surged ahead 10-3.
Washburn responded with a 15-2 run, taking a six-point lead into the second quarter. The Ichabods gave themselves some breathing room, outscoring the Hawks 23-11 to take a 41-23 lead into halftime.
The tough shooting night for Rockhurst continued as Washburn stretched the lead 31, taking a 59-28 lead into the fourth quarter. The Hawks showed some fight in the fourth quarter, outscoring Washburn 21-10, punctuated by a buzzer-beating three-pointer by
Brittany Meyer to end the game.
Player of the Game: Madeline Ronshausen. Splashing home four three-pointers, Ronshausen kept the Hawks afloat early on. She also added three rebounds and two assists.
With the loss, Rockhurst is now 2-1 in the regular season. They travel to Bradley Sunday for their third and final exhibition game.
