Hawks pull away late for 5-3 win at William Jewell

McKenna Leetch scored two goals to lead the Hawks to a 5-3 road win.

Box Score McKenna Leetch scored two goals, including the tie-breaking goal in the 87th minute, to lead Rockhurst to a 5-3 victory over William Jewell in a women's soccer conference match Friday night in Liberty, Missouri.

Leetch broke a 3-3 tie with less than three minutes left on a shot from 10 yards out off a pass from Stephanie Ostrander, who scored the Hawks' final goal two minutes later with an assist from Alex Moss.

Rockhurst jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half. The first goal was an own goal in the 10th minute. McKenna Letch scored her first goal of the night in the 22nd minute, assisted by Elle Guttmann. Mackenzie Moore made it 3-0 at halftime, with an assist from Moss, in the 43rd minute.

The Cardinals scored three unanswered goals to knot the score inside the 12-minute mark before Rockhurst scored two goals in the final three minutes.

The Hawks outshot Jewell, 21-18. McKenna Leetch and Ostrander each posted four shots to lead the visitors. Jillian Leetch and Cathy Rometti added two shots apiece. Megan Meyers finished with seven saves.

Rockhurst (6-4-1, 5-2 GLVC) travels to Bellarmine on Sunday for another conference matchup.
