Maddie Dierkes came up big on Senior Day. The senior captain scored three points to lead Rockhurst past Indianapolis, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Bourke Field.
Dierkes broke the tie for the Hawks, delivering the deciding goal in the 84th
minute. The ball bounced around in the box after a
Jillian Leetch corner kick and Dierkes poked it in from three yards out.
McKenna Leetch opened the scoring in the 13th
minute, giving the Hawks an early advantage on a header off a Dierkes corner kick.
Rockhurst maintained that 1-0 lead until Indy leveled the score on a penalty kick in the 64th
minute. Stephanie Burdsall converted on a penalty kick for the Greyhounds after she was fouled in the box.
The shots were even at 12 apiece.
McKenna Leetch led the Hawks with four shots.
Cathy Rometti and
Stephanie Ostrander each added two shots.
Rosie Breheny was strong in goal for Rockhurst, collecting seven saves on the day.
Rockhurst improves to 8-5-1 overall and 7-3 in the GLVC. The Hawks are now tied for second place in the conference, one-half game behind McKendree.
