Sommerhoff scores winning goal in 1-0 win over Lewis

Freshman Cate Sommerhoff scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

Box Score Freshman Cate Sommerhoff scored on a 16-yard shot in overtime to give Rockhurst a 1-0 victory over Lewis Friday night at Bourke Field.

Sommerhoff drilled her game-winning shot just inside the right post off a pass from Kaley Nieters less than five minutes into overtime.

Courtney Chitwood almost won the game late in the second half. The freshman midfielder hit the crossbar with a shot in the 78th minute.

Rockhurst finished with 21 shots while Lewis posted six shots. Jillian Leetch and Sommerhoff each had four shots to lead the Hawks. Jessica Smelcer added three shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rosie Breheny finished with three saves.

The Hawks (3-0, 1-0 GLVC) host Wisconsin-Parkside at noon on Sunday.
