Hawks rally for 3-1 victory at Northwest Missouri State

Cathy Rometti scored the game-winning goal on a direct kick from 35 yards out.

Box Score Rockhurst grabbed its first lead of the game in the 78th minute and added an insurance goal four minutes later to come away with a 3-1 victory over Northwest Missouri State Wednesday night in Maryville, Missouri.

Sophomore defender Cathy Rometti scored her first collegiate goal on a 35-yard shot off a direct kick to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Freshman Jillian Leetch found the net in the 82nd minute to put Rockhurst in front by two goals.

Rockhurst freshman Cate Sommerhoff tied the game at 1-1 on a rebound shot in the 64th minute. The Bearcats scored the first goal of the game in the 46th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rosie Breheny stopped a career-high nine saves to prevent the Bearcats from scoring more than one goal.

Rockhurst finished with 26 shots while Northwest Missouri posted 19 shots. Kaley Nieters led the Hawks with seven shots. Mia Zanaboni and Leetch each tallied four shots.

The Hawks (2-0) host Lewis in their conference opener Friday at 5 p.m.
