Hawks down Miners to give Herdlick his 200th victory

Lauren Merlo scored the Hawks' first two goals.

Box Score Rockhurst broke out offensively in a 4-1 win over Missouri S&T to give head coach Greg Herdlick his 200th career victory Sunday at Bourke Field.

Lauren Merlo scored two goals in the first 20 minutes to give the Hawks an early 2-0 lead over the Miners. Merlo tallied both of her goals from close range.

Kaley Nieters assisted on both goals. Hannah Lauer also assisted on the first goal, while Colleen Pikus made the key pass on the second goal.

Cate Sommerhoff tallied her third goal in the 33rd minute with a header shot with assists from Lauer and Paige Dussold. The Hawks' final goal was scored by Nieters on a penalty kick in the 57th minute.

Rockhurst finished 14 shots on goal and eight shots on goal. Merlo led the Hawks with three shots and two shots on goal. Nieters, Jillian Leetch and Cathy Rometti added two shots apiece. Rosie Breheny posted three saves in relief of starter Maggie Forbes.

The Hawks (6-4, 4-3 GLVC) play at Maryville Friday afternoon.
