Box Score Jillian Myers saved the day for Rockhurst. Myers' fifth steal of the game preserved a 60-59 victory over Missouri S&T Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.
The Lady Miners had a chance to win the game in the closing seconds. S&T's Raetchel Gray drove the length of the court, but her pass was stolen by Myers on the baseline in the final seconds.
Freshman Marisa Lowe led the Hawks with 15 points behind five-of-10 three-pointers. Myers posted nine points, five rebounds, five assists and a game-high five steals. Haleigh Cindrich added nine points and nine rebounds. Lauren Meyers and Kaci Garman combined for 14 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks.
Cindrich hit a three-pointer with 2:44 left to give the Hawks a 60-55 lead. Gray hit two free throws at the 2:20 mark and S&T's Bria Pierce made a layup with 1:41 left to bring the Lady Miners within 60-59. S&T got a chance to win the game in the final seconds after RU's Meyers missed three-pointer with 11 seconds.
Rockhurst shot 34.5 percent from the field on 19-of-55 shooting and 76.5 percent at the foul line (13 of 17). The Hawks outrebounded the Lady Miners, 40-33.
S&T made 18-of-46 field goals (34.5 percent) and 18-of-28 free throws (64.3 percent). Gray paced the Lady Miners with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Hawks, 11-6 and 4-5 in the GLVC, play at Maryville on Thursday (January 28).
