Lauren Meyers scored 18 points behind seven-of-11 shooting to lead Rockhurst to a 64-45 victory over Evangel in a season-opening game in the Fairfield Inn/Pizza Hut Classic Friday night in Joplin, Mo.

Rockhurst took advantage of 32 Evangel turnovers to score 32 points. Freshman point guard Jillian Myers and Meyers combined for 10 of the Hawks' 16 steals.

The Hawks used an 11-0 run in the second half to take a 44-36 lead with 11:35 left in the game. Mary Dineen, who finished with 15 points, hit a pair of three-pointers to give the Hawks a 56-40 lead.

Myers finished with eight points, 10 rebounds and seven steals. Kendall Hart added seven points off the bench.

Rockhurst (1-0) will play Missouri Southern Saturday night in Joplin.
