Callahan captained the Rockhurst football team in his senior year. He signed a pro basketball contract with the Chicago Stag in 1946 and played for the Providence Steamrollers. He also played for the Stamford Pros in the Connecticut State League and the Stamford Celtics in the Eastern League. He was named to the “Who’s Who of Tennis” in 1983.
