Simpson was a standout third baseman for the Hawks from 1997-99. He finished with a .445 career batting average, while breaking school single season records for home runs (21), RBIs (85) and total bases (166). Simpson helped lead the Hawks to 104 victories over three seasons, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Championships in 1999. He was named an NCAA Division II All-American and Regional Player of the Year in 1999.
