Under the direction of head coach Jerry Reynolds, the 1979-80 men's basketball team posted a 24-6 record and defeated Southwest Baptist in the NAIA District 16 championship game. The Hawks advanced to the second round in the national tournament with a 78-69 first-round win over Defiance, Ohio. Junior forward Mark Teahan earned NAIA All-American honorable mention recognition.
