The Rockhurst men’s soccer program achieved tremendous success in the mid-1970s under head coach Tony Tocco and a core group young players who entered in 1975 and would lead the Hawks to a combined record of 50-10-3 highlighted by three appearances in the NAIA final four in 1975, 1976 and 1978. In 1975, the team finished third at the national tournament with a 17-3 record while outscoring its opponents, 81-12. In 1976, the returning group led the team to a 16-4-1 record and an appearance in the national championship game where the team fell to Simon Fraser, 1-0. The 1978 team scored 86 goals while posting a 17-3-2 record and a third-place finish at the national tournament.
