Coached by Gene Hart, Rockhurst's first intercollegiate soccer team posted a 7-0 regular season record while outscoring their opponents 26-12. The Hawks defeated Park 3-2 in the first game in school history, held on for a 3-2 win over Benedictine and capped the regular season with a 4-2 victory over Kansas State. Rockhurst received a bid to participate in the 1964 NAIA national championship soccer tournament in Upper Montclair, N.J. The Hawks finished in fourth place after falling to Trenton State (N.J.), 7-5, in the semifinals and Castleton State (Vt.), 3-1, in the third-place game. Mike Kavanaugh and Geoff Melchoir were named to the All-Tournament team. Kavanaugh led the team with nine goals in the Hawks' inaugural season.
