Hawks hold off Jewell rally to post 59-56 road victory

Madeline Ronshausen scored 21 points to lead Rockhurst to a 59-56 victory over William Jewell Thursday night at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Missouri.

Ronshausen sank two free throws with 23 seconds left to give the Hawks a 58-55 lead. The sophomore guard earlier gave Rockhurst a nine-point lead, 51-42, with two free throws with 7:45 left in the game.


The Hawks jumped out to a 33-22 halftime lead behind 20 points from Ronshausen (12) and Morgan Harwood (8). Rockhurst outscored the Cardinals 18-11 in the second period.


William Jewell went on a 13-5 run in the fourth period to cut Rockhurst's lead to 56-55 with 1:23 left to play. After Jillian Myers made one free throw with 11 seconds left, the Cardinals missed two game-tying 3-pointers in the final nine seconds.


Myers posted 10 points, three assists and two steals. Harwood collected 10 points, five rebounds and two steals. Kaci German added seven points and nine rebounds. Rachel Holden tallied seven points and six rebounds. Ronshausen also tallied six rebounds.


Rockhurst shot 39.6 percent from the field, while the Cardinals finished with a 36.5 percent field goal percentage.


The Hawks (7-7, 3-3 GLVC) host Truman State on Saturday.
