Box Score Seth Soto and
Brandon Mikulka combined for three home runs and six RBIs to lead Rockhurst to an 11-8 victory over Indianapolis on the first day in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament Thursday at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.
The Hawks (28-22) will play Missouri S&T (35-15) on Friday at 2 p.m. Central time on the second day of the GLVC Tournament. The two split a four-game series earlier this season in Rolla.
Soto doubled home Rockhurst's first run in the first inning and gave the Hawks a 10-4 lead in the sixth with a three-run home run. Mikulka led off the second and fourth innings with solo home runs.
Mitch Stickney keyed a four-run fifth with a two-run double to put the Hawks in front for good after trailing 4-1 going into the second inning. Rockhurst held off Indy by stranding fifth Greyhound runners in the last two innings.
Jake Goessling (2-1) relieved starter
Michael Lydon-Lorson in the first inning to get the win. He held Indy to two runs on four hits over 6.1 innings.
Thomas Cargile got the last three outs to pick up his third save of the season.
Mikulka and
Wylson Lamb led the 14-hit Rockhurst attack with three hits apiece. Soto and
Brett Marr each collected two hits.
