Box Score Rockhurst made history on Sunday by posting its first victory in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. The Hawks caught fire in the second half in rolling to a 73-62 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside in a first-round game at Mason-Halpin Field House.
It was the first postseason win for the Rockhurst women in 18 years since winning a game in the 1998 NAIA national tournament. The seventh-seeded Hawks, 15-12, will face second-seeded Drury, 23-3, at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
Mary Dineen scored 17 of her game-high 30 points in the second half. She connected on 10-of-21 shots, including four-of-nine three-pointers. Dineen scored 11 points in the third period as the Hawks outscored Parkside 27-12 to take a 54-44 lead in the fourth period.
Marisa Lowe scored 13 points on four-of-nine shooting. Kendall Hart came off the bench to collect 10 points and four rebounds. Lauren Meyers posted eight points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Jillian Myers added four assists and four steals.
Parkside jumped out to a 32-27 halftime lead. The Rangers made 14-of-30 shots in the first half while holding Rockhurst to three 3-point field goals.
Rockhurst shot 40.0 percent from the field (24 of 60) and 38.5 percent on 3-point shots (10 of 26). Parkside made 28-of-67 field goals (41.8 percent) and 1-of-12 three-pointers. Brittney Fair paced the Rangers with 16 points.
