Rockhurst's season ended with a first-round loss at Southern Indiana in the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. The ninth-seeded Hawks fell to the eighth-seeded Screaming Eagles, 86-72, Sunday in Evansville, Indiana.

"I was proud of our effort today. We battled and battled but never got over the hump offensively," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener, who guided the Hawks to a 12-15 record in his first season.

"I'd like to thank the six seniors for their contributions this season. They took the program a step in the right direction. They were unselfish and totally bought in to our approach to each practice and game. I am happy that I had the opportunity to coach them."

Southern Indiana led 33-26 at halftime and outscored the Hawks 53-46 in the second half. The Eagles shot 61.3 percent in the final 20 minutes to pull away in the final 10 minutes.

Austin LeVan led the Hawks with 20 points on seven-of-18 shooting. Alex Hagan posted 18 points and eight rebounds. Dominique Washington tallied 17 points and six rebounds. Malachi Nix collected with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Rockhurst shot 41.9 percent from the field (26 of 62) and 20.0 percent on 3-point shots (five of 25). Southern Indiana shot 50.8 percent from the field (30 of 59) and 47.6 percent on 3-point field goals (10 of 21). T.J. Tisdell paced the Eagles with 22 points.
