Box Score Rockhurst played scoreless defense for the 13th time this season, blanking Missouri-St. Louis, 1-0, in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament Friday at Michael Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis.
The second-seeded Hawks (17-1-2) will be making their first appearance in the GLVC Championship game, facing fourth-seeded McKendree (15-4-1) in the GLVC tourney finals at 11 a.m. (Central time) on Sunday (Nov. 6). McKendree won in penalty kicks over top-seeded Truman State in the other semifinal game.
Kaley Nieters scored the winning goal in the seventh minute. The junior forward broke in behind the UMSL defenders and beat the Triton keeper low from 12 yards out. It was Nieter's team-high ninth goal of the season with an assist from
Jessica Smelcer.
Rockhurst finished with 13 shots and six shots on goal. Nieters led the 15th-ranked Hawks with four shots and two shots on goal.
Meghan Kilkenny posted three shots.
Courtney Silberberg added two shots and one shot on goal.
Ali Wallner stopped four shots to post her 10th shutout of the season.
