Caroline Lipp hit a pinch-hit three-run home run in the sixth inning to lift Rockhurst to a 3-2 victory over Bellarmine in the GLVC Championship Tournament Friday in East Peoria, Ill.
Rockhurst, 27-21, will play Illinois Springfield on Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m. in an elimination game in the GLVC Tournament.The eighth-seeded Hawks rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the sixth.
Lexie Zuniga started the rally with a single to left.
Lauren Cairo doubled to left to set up Lipp's dramatic home run over the left-field fence. It was Lipps's sixth homer of the season. Zuniga collected two of the Hawks' six hits.
Bridgette Sappington (21-12) allowed two unearned runs on two hits while striking out two and walking two over seven innings. A pair of Rockhurst errors led to Bellarmine runs in the first and sixth innings.
Rockhurst opened the GLVC Tournament Friday morning with a 9-0 loss in five innings to top-seeded Missouri-St. Louis. The Tritons scored three runs in the first, two in the third and four more in the fourth. UMSL's Hannah Perryman held the Rockhurst offense hitless while striking out 12 Hawks.
